I thought I would just pop in a couple of photographs that I took last year in Credenhill Wood. This flower I believe to be an “Early Purple Orchid”. This was flowering in the middle of May 2012. Apparently witches used the tubers of these orchids to make love potions – I can’t comment on how successful they were. I also managed, just, to capture this “Speckled Wood Butterfly” flitting around the brambles at the end of May 2012. This species is apparently unusual in that it can overwinter as either a larva or a pupa.
