Hanging out the duvet on the line to dry, between showers and hailstorms, I spotted this 7 spot ladybird.
You can tell it is a 7 spot ladybird, as it has 7 black spots on its red wing casings and the distinctive white patches. It is a fairly common native British species of ladybird, but it is under threat from the non-native Harlequin. For more information and folklore you can read my previous post, Seven Spot Ladybirds.* For my friends in the USA: duvet = comforter, ladybird = ladybug
